Handover Night, 2004

It's all change at the Lions Club of Radstock and Midsomer Norton, as the President's medal was handed again to Lion John Whittock at the Handover Dinner at Cameley Lodge on Friday 25th June.
Lion John in his acceptance speech, paid tribute to last year's President, Robert Briggs for his most lucrative year. Click here for Robert's notes about his year.
Many good causes had been supported including the £12.000 raised for the play equipment for the disabled that will be fitted in the Tom Huyton Play Park in Radstock in collaboration with the Town Council.
Lion John also mentioned Robert's wife, Margaret, who had so well supported her husband at club events and had arranged several social meetings for Lion's Ladies. For more information on the Ladies activities during the past year, click here.
He also thanked his new committee chairmen for their anticipated support during the coming year.
In the cold wet light of the next morning, Lion John could be seen already working by making preliminary inquiries into his charity for the year. He has decided that he would like to support the Bath and District Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The Branch offers support to sufferers in the early days just after diagnosis, right up to the time when the problems become acute. Support is given to early-diagnosed patients in the form of support and information for them and their carers and later, when life gets a little more difficult, home and transport aids can be provided. The local branch is open to proposals to co-fund projects put forward by the Lions Club, thereby sometimes doubling the assistance that can be given to local deserving causes.
Lion John knows several present sufferers in Norton Radstock, and would like to dedicate his year's work to the memory of two colleagues he witnessed suffer form MS for many hears when he worked at Purnells of Paulton.
