The band produced an enjoyable and entertaining evening.  Church organist, Douglas Richings, set the standard with his lively welcome music to greet the audience.  Introducing each piece, master of ceremonies, the Rev. Christopher Chiplin had detailed knowledge and had obviously done his homework.  Energetic Musical Director, Stewart Lewins, continued in the same vein, leading both the youth and senior bands during the concert.  Eric Ball's Star Lake, written in 1937 and first played in the USA was a very lively opening, followed by Handal's five movement Music for a Royal Fireworks.  Included in the first half were Mr. Jums (for cat lovers) and Angel Voices by Edward G. Monk, an 1810 organist at St John's Church, Midsomer Norton, and the theme from Born Free by John Barry.  After the interval it was the turn of the Youth Band and Stewart congratulated 15 year old cornet player Debbie Dring, who gained the Sarum Sound Trophy at the recent Wessex Band Summer School held in Bournemouth.  The award was for the most improved musician who attended the course.  She is a pupil at Downside Abbey, taught by Keith Haines, and has been a member of the Silver Band for 7 years, together with playing for the Solent Youth Band.

The second half continued with the brilliant Amparito Rocco, a dance by L. Texidor, followed by If, a Baritone Solo by Becki Colbourne.  E. Firth's traditional brass band piece, Kenilworth was followed by the well known and popular The Beatles Gold.  Clappy Hootenanny by Harold L. Walters concluded the concert.  Solos were performed by Dan Paget, Euphonium and Gary Latchem, Principal Cornet.  The evening was organised by the Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions Club with the entire proceeds being given to the band.

Lion President, Derek Livsey, thanked St John Ambulance for their attendance, the Church Ladies for supplying the refreshments, Lion Barry Collier, Chairman of the Activities committee, Organist Douglas Richings and the programme sponsors, Paperwork Plus, Docky's, Miller Ashman and Carshop, and lastly, the Band for their fine music and performance making the evening most enjoyable.
